Introduction

This is the Web site of The Hoya newspaper ("The Hoya"), Georgetown University's newspaper of record since 1920. The Hoya (“We”) is published twice weekly during the academic year with the exception of holiday and exam periods, and exclusive content is posted on our Web site periodically.

Internet consumer privacy and rights are of paramount importance to The Hoya and our advertisers. Unfortunately the Internet's technology and capabilities are sometimes misused. We want to ensure our visitors that we are doing everything in our power to make certain that our Web sites are not the source of any abuses.

E-mail Communication

Any information users receive from us via e-mail has been delivered only because you have previously selected to receive it (opted-in). If you do not want to receive e-mail from us in the future, please let us know by contacting our webmaster at webmaster@thehoya.com or by phone at (202) 687-3415.

We will not send or deliver e-mail addresses for unsolicited bulk e-mail (sometimes referred to as "Spam") to our readers.

Visitor Tracking

For each visitor to our Web page, our Web server automatically recognizes only the consumer's domain name. We collect aggregate information on what pages consumers access or visit, and user-specific information on only information volunteered by the consumer in forms and applications.

Upon request we provide site visitors with access to all information [including proprietary information] that we maintain about them, financial information (e.g., credit card account information) that we maintain about them, transaction information (e.g., dates on which customers made purchases, amounts and types of purchases) that we maintain about them, and/or contact information (e.g., name, address, phone number) that we maintain about them. Consumers can access or correct inaccuracies in this information by e-mailing us at webmaster@thehoya.com or calling us at (202) 687-3415.

The “E-Mail to a Friend” feature is an easy way for thehoya.com users to send articles through e-mail. The e-mail address(es) that you supply to use this service will only be used to send the requested article.

With respect to cookies, we only set cookies to keep you logged in, and to see which menus you've left open.

Web Advertising

To try and bring you offers that are of interest to you, we have relationships with other companies that we allow to place ads on our Web pages. As a result of your visit to our site, ad server companies may collect information such as your domain type, your IP address and clickstream information. For further information, consult the privacy policies of:

The Hoya is not responsible for the content or the privacy policies of Web sites to which it may link.

Data Security

To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy and ensure the appropriate use of information, we have put in place physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to protect the information we collect online. However, as effective as these measures are, no security system is impenetrable. We cannot guarantee the security of our database, nor can we guarantee that the information you supply will not be intercepted while being transmitted to us over the Internet.

Compliance with Legal Process

We may disclose personal information if we are required to do so by law or we in good faith believe that such action is necessary to (1) comply with the law or with legal process; (2) protect and defend our rights and property; (3) protect against misuse or unauthorized use of The Hoya; or (4) protect the personal safety or property of our users or the public (among other things, this means that if you provide false information or attempt to pose as someone else, information about you may be disclosed as part of any investigation into your actions).

Updates to this Policy

From time to time, we may use customer information for new, unanticipated uses not previously disclosed in our privacy notice. If our information practices change at some time in the future we will post the policy changes to our Web site to notify you of these changes and provide you with the ability to opt out of these new uses. If you are concerned about how your information is used, you should check back at our Web site periodically.
