The Hoya won nine total awards for its journalism from both the Society for Professional Journalists (SPJ) and Georgetown University.
In the SPJ’s 2024 Region 2 Mark of Excellence Awards — which recognize the best collegiate journalism published in the 2024 calendar year in Delaware, Washington, D.C., Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia college newspapers — The Hoya won first prize in the large school category of breaking news reporting. It is The Hoya’s first ever SPJ award.
As a winner in its category, The Hoya will advance to the national competition for breaking news writing. The SPJ will announce national winners in late spring.
At the Georgetown Journalism Program’s annual Edward B. Bunn Awards for Journalistic Excellence ceremony April 28, which recognizes the best journalism published during the 2024-2025 academic year, The Hoya won eight of the 18 awards. This doubled The Hoya’s total from last year and included its first ever prize in the multimedia category.
