The No. 13 Georgetown University men’s lacrosse team (9-4, 4-1 Big East) took home every individual award in the conference and had 6 players named to the all-conference squad, the Big East announced April 30.
The Hoyas, who have won the last six Big East lacrosse tournaments, maintained their iron grip on the conference heading into this year’s tournament, hosted by No. 16 University of Denver (7-7, 2-3 Big East).
The Big East named graduate attacker Aidan Carroll the conference’s offensive player of the year. Carroll excelled as Georgetown’s offensive leader, racking up a season total of 33 goals and 20 assists. Carroll’s 53 points is the third-most by a Big East player this year — his second consecutive season with 50 or more points.
Sophomore defender Ty Banks took home the defensive player of the year award. Banks played a leading role in the Hoyas’ defense, which held opponents to single-digit scoring in eight of 13 games. He caused 21 turnovers and recovered 33 ground balls — as well as 1 goal and 1 assist. Sophomore goalie Anderson Moore unanimously won goalkeeper of the year. After receiving the freshman of the year award last year, Moore improved to become the best goalie in the Big East, posting a .534 save percentage and allowing only 9.02 goals on average..
The Big East also named freshman face-off specialist Ross Prince freshman and co-specialist of the year. Prince shares the specialist of the year honor with Villanova University long-stick midfielder Jake Melchionni. Prince finished third in the conference in faceoff percentage, at .612, and had 1 goal and 1 assist.
Carroll, Banks and Moore were all unanimous selections to the all-Big East first team. Prince, first-year defender Robert Plath and first-year attacker Jack Ransom were named to the all-Big East second team. Plath led the Big East in turnovers caused this season with 26. Ransom caught fire down the stretch of the regular season, setting the record for goals in a Big East game at 9 against Villanova April 25.
No. 1 seed Georgetown will face the No. 4 seed Marquette University Golden Eagles (7-6, 2-3 Big East) in the first round of the conference tournament May 1.
