While most students and alumni watched the Olympics from home, Georgetown alumnus Andrew Campbell (SFS ’06) had a front row seat. And although Campbell — the United States’ sailor in the Laser racing — was not as successful as his fellow Olympian Michael Phelps, he still had the time of his life.

Just three months ago, Georgetown captured its second sailing national championship in three years and its third overall.

When he arrived at Georgetown last fall, he didn’t know his new teammates well enough to know if winning a national championship was a realistic goal or not. So he didn’t bother worrying about it.
Georgetown Sailing Wins National Championship
Thanks to a strong final-day comeback, Georgetown has captured a sailing national title, its second in three years and third overall. This is the Hoyas' first fleet racing championship.
"We are totally thrilled about this," Head Coach Michael Callahan said in a press release. "Words can't describe how happy we are."

Georgetown Capsizes Top-Ranked Seahawks
One week after qualifying for the national championships in team racing, Georgetown upset No. 1 St. Mary’s in the MAISA fleet race championships. The races were held at Hobart and William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y.
