Underdog Hoyas Hope to Prove That Their Bite is Bigger Than Their Bark
When the Inside Lacrosse poll came out before the 2008 season, the Hoyas found themselves ranked 14th in the nation, but something didn’t seem right despite the lofty ranking.
“We’re the underdogs this year,” says Patty Piotrowicz, a senior midfielder and one of the three team captains.
“No one’s expecting anything out of us,” adds sophomore midfielder Ashby Kaestner.

In a Big East conference loaded with ranked teams, Georgetown is still a bit young.
Georgetown Races Ahead of Potomac Pack
Georgetown crew celebrated its 50th anniversary this weekend, but the Georgetown rowers in the women’s club eight did not take it easy on the alums. At the Head of the Potomac, the current Hoya rowers beat out a boat from the Georgetown Boat Club that consisted of 1990s Georgetown alumni and two former Olympians, Cathy Simon and Missy Ryan.
Alum Donates $1 Million to Endow Hoops Scholarship
The Georgetown basketball team has plenty of former players who are good at dishing out assists — Allen Iverson has been dropping dimes in the NBA for over a decade, and while Jonathan Wallace (COL ’08) was known for his rainbow-arced threes, he handed out over 350 assists at Georgetown.
Players to Watch
Maurice White
White, the Leopards’ primary running back, had just 249 yards rushing last season. The low mark, however, was not due to his inability to run the ball; it was because he battled injuries the entire season and only appeared in four games. The senior out of Cleveland, Ohio, averaged over 60 yards and a touchdown per game in his limited action in 2007.
Mitchell Puts Georgetown's Name on the Map
Compared to the century or so it took Georgetown and Howard to meet on the gridiron, the extra day they took to wait out a tropical storm seemed insignificant.

Georgetown (3-3) beat Davidson (1-5) convincingly on Friday night to open the Carolina Classic, but then dropped two matches on Saturday to North Carolina (3-3) and Missouri State (4-3).

Georgetown Drops Pair of Matches in North Carolina
Georgetown must have felt like it was watching a rerun this weekend in North Carolina.
For the second straight weekend, the Hoyas (0-4) lost their first game of the weekend 3-2 and then got blown out in their second contest.
This time, it was Davidson (2-2) who downed Georgetown 3-2 on Friday and North Carolina (2-2) who beat up the Hoyas 11-0 on Sunday.
Davidson Left Bitter Taste, But No Real Rivalry
Call it a quirk in the schedule. Call it bad luck. Call it whatever you want, Friday will still sting for some die-hard Georgetown fans.
