Women’s Basketball Head Coach Pat Knapp celebrated his 200th victory at Georgetown earlier this month as his Hoya squad upset Boston College, a No. 5 seed in last season’s NCAA tournament, 70-65.
“I’d rather win 200 more,” Knapp said of his milestone victory. “The number of wins I get is insignificant because my focus is on winning the next game.”
Now in the midst of his 15th season on the hilltop, Knapp sports a record of 201-210. Including a three-year stint at New Mexico State where he began his collegiate coaching career in the mid-’80s, Knapp’s overall Division I record stands at 246-249. At 10-6 this season, Knapp and his Hoyas have their sights set on a third consecutive winning season and postseason appearance.
Additionally, Georgetown freshman forward Rebekkah Brunson earned Big East Rookie of the Week honors earlier this month for the second time this season. Along with Providence’s Jenese Wilcox, Brunson is the only repeat recipient of the award this season. Brunson led the Hoyas to a 1-1 record in the first week of January, which included the victory over Boston College. Against the Eagles, Brunson notched career highs in points (18) as well as rebounds (14), earning her third double-double of the season. Brunson added a fourth double-double in the Hoyas’ 56-53 loss to Seton Hall.
Against top-ranked Connecticut in Georgetown’s first game of the new year, Brunson led the Hoyas with 15 points and seven rebounds in a losing effort. Brunson ranks third in conference rebounding, averaging 7.7 boards per game.
