Over Thanksgiving, my family and I went to Frankfurt, Germany. Here are highlights of my trip through my camera roll.
First stop: Höchst
My flight landed at 7 a.m., so we had the whole day free. Our first stop was the neighborhood Höchst, in Frankfurt-West. Gorgeous architecture.
And gorgeous parks and trees, of course.
Our first bratwursts of the trip were glorious. Absolutely delicious. But what was even more delicious were the mashed potatoes that came with it. It was the perfect consistency, with a bit of texture, but still buttery and light. Divine.
And of course, how can we forget the pork knuckle? I devoured this like a Viking with the knife they provided, feeling very medieval.
Second Stop: Heidelberg
We took a day trip to Heidelberg, a quaint little European town. It ran alongside the Neckar River, with colorful houses and stunning scenery.
It felt like I was living in a postcard.
Had the best pasta at the cutest (and tiniest) restaurant, La Bruschetta. It was half-pizza shop, half-pasta shop.
We got the truffle pasta — delicious. And very generous with the truffle.
And the bolognese pasta — also delicious.
People were biking up and down the streets of the city.
Next to the pizza shop was this cool-looking door buzzer,
and the coziest old bookstore,
and a funky-looking blue door.
The views from the riverbank were as picturesque as it gets.
Traffic buttons were fun,
And I broke my no-caffeine streak with so many cups of lattes and cappuccinos.
In the city, you could buy beer through the windows.
The majestic Frankfurt Cathedral.
And finally, warm mulled sangria, which my dad enjoyed.
It was a lovely holiday trip.
