The GU Hawaii Club is a cultural organization dedicated to sharing Hawaiian and Polynesian cultures with the rest of the Georgetown community. Our club is composed of a diverse group of students, who come not only from Hawaii, but from all over the U.S. and the world.

Throughout the year, Hawaii Club plans numerous bake sales to fundraise for its Luau event and coordinates family-style potlucks to welcome new Hoyas. Since 1999, the Hawaii Club at Georgetown has annually coordinated and hosted the largest Luau on the East Coast. Our club’s most exciting event, Luau is both the culmination of almost four months of planning and hard work and a spectacular evening of cultural dining and performance. Luau brings together about 100 student dancers each year from various ethnic and geographic backgrounds. Members of the Hawaii Club plan and execute all parts of the event from logistical issues, such as renting a venue, to ordering food and the actual choreography of every dance.

Our club organizes Luau in the spring, around the end of March or beginning of April. This year, Georgetown’s 14th annual Luau will be on Saturday, April 2. Performances will take place in the ICC Auditorium, and we’ll serve authentic Hawaiian food in the ICC Galleria.

In previous years, after Luau has ended, we’ve either participated in Georgetown Day by making and giving away Haupia or have performed in Asiafest. In the future, we hope to expand our collaboration with other members of the campus community. Whether it is participating in Relay for Life, performing for Best Buddies or helping with homecoming celebrations, we are happy to contribute to the Hilltop community by enlivening a unique and exotic culture right here on campus.
