GU Hires Offensive Coordinator From Hofstra

On Thursday, Kevin Kelly, head coach of the Georgetown football team, announced the hiring of a new offensive coordinator, months after completing a winless 2009 season in which the program finished 0-11.

David Patenaude, formerly the offensive coordinator at Hofstra University in New York for the past two seasons, will fill the void left by the departure of former Georgetown offensive coordinator Jim Miceli, who left in January to take the assistant head coaching job at the University of Akron in Ohio.

Patenaude spent the last three seasons at Hofstra, the first year spent coaching the quarterbacks. He has been coaching since 1991, having served as a coach for the United States Coast Guard Academy, Fordham University and Columbia University, before becoming the head coach of Division II New Haven College (Conn.) in 2002. He served in that position for two years before the football program was dropped following the 2003 season.

Miceli served as the Hoyas’ offensive coordinator for the last four seasons, the same time span that Kelly has been head coach. During that span, the Blue and Gray have compiled an overall record of 5-35.

Kelly also announced the hiring of a new wide receivers’ coach Matt Dence, who arrives on the Hilltop after spending five years on the coaching staff at Yale University (Conn.). “
