Georgetown University will begin accepting the Common Application in the fall 2026 application cycle, multiple sources familiar with the decision confirmed to The Hoya.
The shift, which will begin with applicants for admission to the undergraduate Class of 2031, marks a major change away from the university’s years-long practice of using its own application for undergraduate admission.
The Common App is an online college application platform which over 1,100 U.S. colleges and universities accept as a form of entry to their undergraduate programs. More than one million students apply to colleges using the Common App, which streamlines demographic information, personal statements and letters of recommendation.
Georgetown is one of only a few top-ranked colleges not to use the Common App. Of the top 50 national universities according to the U.S. News and World Report’s rankings, only Georgetown, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and schools within the University of California system are not on the Common App.
A university spokesperson declined to comment. A spokesperson for the Common Application did not respond to requests for comment.
