Robbery at Gunpoint in Burleith

A robbery at gunpoint and physical assault occurred on the 3700 block of R Street early Monday morning.

The victim, who has no known affiliation to the university, was physically assaulted and robbed by two unknown black males while walking home, according to a Public Safety Alert issued by the Department of Public Safety. According to information sent to the Burleith e-mail listserv by Ed Solomon, ANC-2E commissioner, the victim was approached from behind by the two suspects while walking west on the 3600 block of R street. The first suspect pointed a gun at the victim and asked for his wallet. The victim was giving the first suspect his wallet when the second suspect knocked the victim to the ground. The suspects then kicked and punched the victim and stole his wallet, and proceeded to flee the scene on foot. They then got into a Jeep at the end of the block and drove away heading east, according to Solomon.

One of the suspects was approximately 5-foot-8, thin and wearing a ski mask, according to the PSA. A description was not given for the second suspect. DPS does not know if the suspects are affiliated with Georgetown, according to DPS investigative sergeant David Ruiz.

The victim was brought to Georgetown University Hospital and treated for minor head injuries. He was subsequently released.

The robbery was reported to the Metropolitan Police Department at 1:31 a.m. MPD’s Department’s full report on the robbery is not yet available. According to Ruiz, the crime was reported as a PSA because of the proximity to campus and the continued threat posed by the suspects, despite the fact that DPS is not handling the case.
