Sanford to Attend University of Dayton

Sophomore guard Vee Sanford will transfer to the University of Dayton, the Dayton Daily News reported today. The news comes a month after Sanford made his intentions to transfer public.

The Flyers, who play in the Atlantic 10 Conference, recently hired former Arizona Associate Head Coach Archie Miller to lead the program. Sanford’s decision is the second major recruiting success for the newcomer this month; he also signed 6-foot-9 forward Alexandre Gavrilovic on May 12.

Sanford visited the Dayton campus earlier this week and enjoyed the atmosphere, according to the local newspaper.

“It was a nice feeling being there,” Sanford told the Daily News. “It really seemed comfortable, it’s a nice city.”

Sanford will have to sit out a year due to NCAA transfer regulations, but will return for the 2012-2013 season with two years of eligibility. He and sophomore forward Jerrelle Benimon are both transferring this year, leaving the Hoyas with only one junior next season. Benimon has not yet announced his plans for the fall.
