News and Notes
– Saturday’s was the first meeting between Georgetown and Michigan. The Hoyas have now played 10 of the 11 teams in the Big Ten, with Northwestern the only outlier.
– Michigan announced a sellout and a capacity-attendance of 13,751, but many seats were empty and the crowd was rarely loud. The student section was small, quiet and speckled with Georgetown fans. In case his name and the number on his jersey were not reminders enough, Michigan students chanted “Who’s your daddy?” to Patrick Ewing Jr. as the junior forward shot free throws in the second half.
– Eight Hoya fans seated in the upper deck spelled out H-O-Y-A S-A-X-A on their T-shirts and could occasionally be heard reciting the “yell of all the yells.” Many Wolverines fans were puzzled as to what exactly was being said.
– A three-pointer from Green with 3:47 to go pushed the Georgetown lead to 16 and sent Michigan fans fleeing en masse. Few of the alleged 13,751 stuck around for the game’s final few possessions.
– Wallace hit both his free throw attempts and has now converted all 15 of his tries on the season. To qualify for the league lead, players must average two attempts per game, a marker Wallace misses. West Virginia junior guard Darris Nichols leads the conference with just two misses in 27 tries, good for a .925 clip.
