This weekend is the most important of the year for the Georgetown golf teams. For the next two days the teams will compete at the Big East championships on the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind., battling for the conference title and individual all-conference honors.
The men are the second-seeded team in a field of six in the tournament. They will face four-time defending champion Virginia Tech, the number one seed, as well as Notre Dame, Rutgers, Boston College and St. John’s. Last year, the men finished third in the championship, behind the Hokies and the Irish.
The men enter the championship with four tournament wins on the year. The Hoyas are currently ranked No. 87 in the nation and are looking for strong performances from seniors Jamie Farrah and Nick Cook to lead them on the weekend.
On the women’s side, the Hoyas are the fourth seed in the field of four. The field for the tournament is identical to last year’s and includes Miami, Notre Dame and Boston College. Notre Dame hopes to defend its conference title, while the Hoyas look to improve on last year’s fourth-place finish. On April 3-4 the Hoyas bested the Irish in the Lady Eagle Invitational and hope to repeat that performance over the next two days. To do so the Hoyas will need another dominant performance from sophomore Christy Larrimore who has led the team all year. The women have five top-10 finishes on the year and will need that experience if they want a win this weekend.
