When did you first start playing football? I started playing football when I was in fourth grade. I was too heavy to run with the ball, so they put a red piece of tape on my helmet so I wouldn’t run with it. My parents were very into sports, and as long as I could remember I was doing something athletic.
What made you decide to go to Georgetown? For me, it came down to here and Bucknell, two totally different schools. It was pretty much the academics and D.C. itself.
Who on the team do you relay on the most? It’s got to be two guys – two tackles – Craig Warznak (MSB ’06) and Liam Grubb (COL ’07). … Whenever we are down, they help me out a lot. Other than that, Nick Cangelosi (COL ’07), the quarterback.
What was the best moment in your career so far? It has to be this year’s Homecoming. Forty-nine seconds left. It was a 14-yard touchdown.
If you could change one thing about football what would it be? For college football, it could be more fun to have celebrations with teammates that are a little more extravagant. We can only give the ball to the ref and jog down the sidelines.
What do you do to get psyched for a game? usic. I listen to my MP3 player before a game. . Even if the coaches are speaking, I have it on.
What are you currently listening to? I listen to everything. A lot of Springsteen. Being from Jersey, I listen to Bon Jovi as well. BTO’s “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet.” [I have] a lot of ’80s rock on my MP3 player. There is a lot of alternative rock on it, too, I guess. Linkin Park and stuff like that.
If you could be great at any other sport or event besides football, what would it be and why? Definitely not basketball. I would say golf. It would be a relaxing thing to play, coming from football. We have six hours of our day taken up with practicing and meetings. It would be nice to play a few rounds of golf.
Biggest pet peeve? People who don’t clean after themselves. It’s not so much that I am a neat freak, but when you live with a bunch of guys, they will leave half of a sandwich on a table, and no one will be picking it up. Next thing you know you have a rat in the house. I had to buy a cat. My friend has a cat, and sometimes I borrow it.
Who in your life inspires you the most? My sister [Leigh] told me to say her. It definitely is her. Even when we were kids, we competed over things all the time, like who could get into the bathtub faster. She’d jump in with her clothes on before I could get up the stairs. She is doing a great job. She is the sales manager for the Orlando Magic. She has definitely been an inspiration for me.
Favorite Georgetown professor? I have to have a normal class like history, or one from my electives. I love Del Donna. He is my music teacher. I have had four classes with him, like Intro to Opera – that was a blast. I have really enjoyed his courses. Within my major, I am going with Haddad. She teaches the Intro to Islam in the West course. It has been a really interesting course. She brings in a lot of speakers. That is actually my focus: the Middle East.
Most prized possession? At home I have a picture of Mark Van Eegan, who was fullback for the Oakland Raiders back in the heyday, and he signed it.
One word people use to describe you? Relaxed. I don’t really get too annoyed or pissed off that easily.
Favorite Georgetown restaurant? Filomena’s. The portions. My dad told me as a kid, you pick a meal not out of quality but quantity, but Filomena’s has both.
Favorite TV show? Right now, “The Sopranos.” I always love it, but they have been on hiatus for a while. It is basically filmed in my neighborhood. The show I like now is “Rome,” which is also on HBO.
Favorite movie? Goodfellas is amazing. I also like Billy Madison and Gladiator. I get into all kinds of movies.
Least favorite movie? I actually saw Chronicles of Riddick two summers ago, and it was probably the funniest movie I have ever seen. It was just laughable. Two years ago, I went with two kids on the team, and we knew it would be awful, but it was going to get my money anyway.
The thing you miss the most about home? My mom’s cooking. There is no doubt. Every year before I have to come down here for summer camp, she makes a meal of everything I love: big ravioli, steak, shrimp and lobster tails. That meal is the best meal I’ll have right before I leave for camp and come to school.
Dream vacation? Well … my lake house in Rhode Island. When I get too bogged down, I go in my mind to the lake house and my hammock. Every summer I try to go up there as many weekends as I can.
Anything you want to do before you graduate? There are so many things left to do. My parents come down after every game, and we try to do different things and see different museums. I want to see as much as I can. I haven’t seen the inside of the National Cathedral yet. There is so much to do in D.C. before I leave.
Pepsi or Coke? I dated a girl in high school whose dad was a Pepsi executive, and if you brought a drink that wasn’t Pepsi to his home, he’d made you throw it out. So I guess I have to say Pepsi.
If you could change places with any historical figure for a day, what would it be? Since I am a history major, there is a lot I would like to see. I love the Rome stuff. The assassination of Caesar would be cool.
How long do you see yourself playing football for? I wish I could play longer, but that is up to people other than me. If that is the end of this year, I have to make it good. There is only four more times that I get to put on this entire uniform.
Booey’s or Wisey’s? I definitely have to go with Wisey’s. The Burger Madness is unreal.
