Georgetown students, mostly sophomores, filled Copley Formal Lounge Wednesday night hoping to learn more about their housing options for the next two years. Because of limited on-campus living space resulting from the construction of the Southwest Quadrangle, the class of 2004 is the first class to be guaranteed only two years of on-campus housing. The goal of the housing forum was to inform students about their housing options and arm them with valuable advice, according to Julie Fultz, coordinator of Off-Campus Student Life.
Director of Housing Services Shirley Menendez, told students that some on-campus spots might be available after the apartment and town house lottery at the end of February. “Last year we did allow ineligible students to add in,” she said.
Menendez also encouraged students to place their names on a waiting list after the residence hall lottery on April 2. Housing Services will run a lottery on that list. Finally, Menendez said that students searching for off-campus housing during the summer are guaranteed a Village C room from July 26-29.
Associate President for Auxiliary Services Margie Bryant, a licensed realtor in D.C., Virginia and Maryland, assured students that off-campus housing is available, but that they must begin looking soon to increase their options.
