Ray Reed, a sophomore guard on the Georgetown men’s basketball team, broke a bone in his right foot while working out in McDonough Gymnasium earlier this week, the Georgetown Athletic Department announced yesterday. “Anytime a student is injured it is unfortunate,” Head Coach John Thompson said in a press release. “There really isn’t much to say. The only positive in this situation is that we haven’t begun practice yet. I’ve told Ray to heal quickly.”
Reed, who played in every game last season, is expected to see significant action this year. He averaged four points and 14.3 minutes per game last year, scoring a career-high 14 points against Costal Carolina early in the season. Especially with the offseason departure of projected starter sophomore guard Matt Causey, Reed will be counted on to make a large contribution in 2004-05.
The extent of the injury and when Reed is projected to be healthy again were not immediately available.
Reed could not be reached for comment.
