Speaker Provides Perspective

TO THE EDITOR:

I am writing in response to Sara Dajani’s letter (“GIA Shouldn’t Sponsor Settlers,” THE HOYA, arch 22, 2005, A2) which labeled recent GIA-sponsored speaker Itamar Marcus an “international war criminal.” Not only is this comment ridiculous in its hyperbole, it is ignorant in its attempt to libel an important spokesman for peaceful reconciliation between Palestinians and Israelis.

Dajani is seeking to equate the settler movement in Israel with the likes of Nazi murderers and Hamas terrorists.

Dajani makes it clear that instead of addressing the issues that arcus came to speak about, namely the frightening and violently anti-Semitic propaganda being distributed by the Palestinian Authority, she would rather resort to defaming his character and therefore discrediting his otherwise compassionate, moderate and useful message.

I would applaud Dajani if she could refute Marcus’ presentation, but I ask her to spare the Georgetown community such libelous digressions.
