For the third straight year, Georgetown was represented in the NBA draft: DaJuan Summers became the latest Hoya to hear his name called after the Detroit Pistons selected him in the second round with the 35th overall pick.Because he was drafted in the second round, Summers was not guaranteed a contract but earned one after a solid showing in the NBA summer league. The Detroit News reported in early August that Summers inked a two-year deal that pays him $457,000 a season.Summers joins Jeff Green, the fifth overall pick in the 2007 draft, Roy Hibbert (COL ’08), 17th overall in 2008, and Patrick Ewing Jr. (COL ’08),42nd overall in 2008, as recent Hoyas taken in the NBA draft. The Hoyas parted ways with Robert Burke and hired Michael Brennan over the summer.Brennan comes to Georgetown from American University, where he spent the last two seasons, but before that he coached for seven years at Princeton. Brennan and Burke coached together under Georgetown Head Coach John Thompson III at Princeton.”We won three league titles together at Princeton and since then [Brennan] has won two more at American,” Head Coach John Thompson III said of his staff’s new addition in a press release. “His knowledge and understanding of the game are invaluable, but just as important is his ability to teach, instruct and pass that knowledge on to our players.”Burke, meanwhile, was announced as a new assistant at American, essentially switching places with Brennan. Burke was mainly responsible for recruitment and game preparation at Georgetown.Georgetown made no official announcement as to whether Burke left the program or was fired, and attempts to reach the former assistant were unsuccessful.American plays at Georgetown on Dec. 5.onroe on Preseason Player of the Year Watch ListGreg Monroe proved he is an elite player throughout a stellar freshman year, and people around the country have taken notice.
