ABOUT THIS ISSUE
From its historical roots and ties to earlier musical cultures to its wide-spanning cultural influence today, hip-hop is one of the richest and most diverse genres in the world. Having emerged in the 1970s from a collective systemic struggle, the genre consistently embodies the values of resilience, rebellion and justice.
Hip-hop is also extremely far-reaching in its cultural impact. From fashion to sports to film, the movement of rap lives and breaths in a lot of what we consider to be cool today. Hip-hop is not just about music; it represents a cultural blending of history, language and storytelling that has lasted a long time and has a long future ahead of it.
