The Throwback Issue

ABOUT THIS ISSUE

From disco music to John Hughes, the media produced during the 1970’s and 1980’s was unmatched. Since the beginning of the pandemic, arts and culture have been tinged with a longing for the past, with everything from film to fashion echoing previous decades. It is now more exciting than ever to take a look back at the previous fifty years and bring them into the present.

With this special issue, The Guide has put together a series of reviews of classics from the 1970’s and 1980’s, including “Pretty in Pink,” “American Beauty” by the Grateful Dead, Margaret Atwood’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” and more. Generation Z, born in the early 2000’s, loves these pieces of the past just as much, if not more, than our parents did. An ode to the retro, The Throwback Issue will bring you back in time.

Contributing Editors: Emma Ginsberg, Nate Powers, Valerie Mallon, Mason Leath, Cameron Newman, Maggie McHale, Calla Rhodes, Mason Stempel, Rosy Lin
