An employee was robbed in Yates Field House Sunday night, resulting in the theft of two safes, among other items, according to a Department of Public Safety Public Safety Alert.

The complainant reported to DPS that at approximately 1:46 a.m., two unidentified males assaulted him, took his car keys and cell phone, and locked him in a closet, [according to the PSA](https://publicsafety.georgetown.edu/84340.html).

“There were two safes and petty cash taken, along with an iPhone and a personal digital camera. There was also damage to glass in several locations as well as [to] an office computer and monitor,” DPS Associate Director Sgt. Joseph Smith said.

According to Jim Gilroy, director of Yates Field House, the amount of money stolen is still being assessed.

The suspects allegedly entered through the doors near McCarthy Pool. In addition to the theft of the safes, petty cash and personal items, the suspects also removed a piece of surveillance equipment and put it in the pool, according to Gilroy.

There are no leads on the identity of the suspects, according to Smith. According to the PSA, the complainant described the suspects as “two unknown black males wearing ski masks.”

“We don’t know if it was an inside job. We certainly hope not. The safes were in the logical places to look for money,” Gilroy said.

The victim incurred minor injuries and was released after being treated by GERMS and transported to the Georgetown University Medical Center emergency room for further treatment.

Smith said DPS could not comment on the modus operandi of the burglar, and that an investigation is ongoing in conjunction with the Metropolitan Police Department.
