The Big East basketball tournament will continue with its double-bye format this upcoming spring, despite a unanimous vote from Big East coaches to change the current system, which places the four teams with the best record in the regular season directly into the quarterfinals of the tournament. The league presidents voted down the choice to change the double-bye system, with both Big East coaches and athletic directors preferring that no teams receive byes. The double-bye has not proven to be significantly advantageous, however: Since its inception two years ago, five of the eight teams to receive double-byes in the tournament have been upset in their opening game.

The Georgetown Men’s Basketball team has announced a game against the Missouri Tigers of the Big 12. ESPN has also reported that Georgetown will renew its out-of-conference matchup with the Memphis Tigers in late December. The Hoyas lost to the Tigers in 2007 but were victorious at home in 2008.

This summer, four Georgetown lacrosse players were drafted in the Major League Lacrosse collegiate draft in June. Midfielders Scott Kocis and Andrew Brancaccio, defenseman Chris Nixon and attack Craig Dowd were all selected in the draft held at Yale University. Georgetown has seen nearly 30 of its lacrosse players get drafted by the MLL since the league was founded in 2001.

Women’s basketball coach Terri Williams-Flournoy signed a contract extension that will keep her patrolling the Georgetown bench through the 2014-2015 season. Williams-Flournoy’s team reached the second round of the NCAA tournament last season, before falling to eventual Final Four participant Baylor. The Women’s basketball team will also take part in the 11th Annual U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam Reef Division over Thanksgiving break. The Hoyas will play Georgia Tech, Missouri and perennial powerhouse Tennessee over a three-day span.
