ABOUT THIS ISSUE

Since their invention in the early 2000s, podcasts have risen and fallen in their popularity as a mode of entertainment, art form and journalistic medium. In the digital age of 2021, podcasts are bigger than ever. With topics ranging from true crime to politics to “The Office,” it often seems podcasts exist for every listener, and podcasting contains infinite space for every creator.

Beyond the diverse content that exists within the podcasting space, podcasts are uniquely situated to have an impact on the lives of their listeners. What may start as entertaining background noise can evolve into lifestyle changes, worldview shifts or a wealth of knowledge gained. Today, podcasts remind listeners that before TV and movies brought special effects to entertainment, radio enthralled listeners — and, in a way, it still does.
