Georgetown University men’s basketball junior guard Malik Mack plans to enter the transfer portal, he told On3 on March 31.
Mack, who started in every game he played for the Hoyas across the 2024-2025 and 2025-2025 seasons, averaged 13.3 points, 4.2 assists and 3.0 rebounds during his two years with the program, highlighted by a career-high 37 points in the College Basketball Crown Tournament on March 31, 2025.
Mack’s decision marks the second significant offseason departure for Georgetown this year, following junior guard KJ Lewis’ transfer announcement March 24.
Mack transferred to Georgetown ahead of the 2024-2025 season after playing the first season of his college career at Harvard University, where he averaged 17.2 points, 4.8 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game, earning Ivy League rookie of the year.
At the time, the Oxon Hill, Md. native was viewed as a key portal pickup for the Hoyas, expected to elevate the backcourt with scoring and playmaking. However, his performance for the Hoyas was inconsistent at times, especially in shooting efficiency.
While shooting 41% from the field and 34.1% from beyond the arc at Harvard, Mack’s numbers this season declined to 38.2% from the field and 29.7% from 3-point range.
However, Mack led the Hoyas in scoring this season and was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll on both Feb. 2 and Feb. 9.
With the portal officially opening April 7, Georgetown will look to address key departures in the backcourt ahead of the 2026-2027 season.
