TRACK | Hoyas Pick Up 3 1st-Place Finishes at Sam Howell Invitational

The Georgetown track and field teams split up Saturday, with one group travelling to Princeton, N.J., for the Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton University, while another travelled to Tempe, Ariz., for Arizona State University’s Sun Angel Classic. The team came away with three first place finishes in Princeton, while picking up a silver in Tempe.

At the Sam Howell Invitational, the team continued to show its prowess in the steeplechase event, with graduate student Christian Liddell claiming victory in the 3000 meter race. Liddell was consequently named Big East Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week on Monday following the meet on Saturday.

GUHOYAS | Junior Jack Salisbury helped the Hoyas claim another medal after finishing first in the 1500m run at the Sam Howell Invitational on April 6.

On the women’s team, freshmen Katherine Modrall and Rachel Sessa ran hard in the 3000m steeplechase to come away with two top-five finishes, placing third and fourth in the event, respectively.

After beating a personal record at the Florida Relays on March 28, All-American sophomore Lawrence Leake took a first-place finish for Georgetown in the 400m dash. Leake notched a time of 47.87 seconds, and sophomore Nate Alleyne followed in third place with a time of 48.15.

All-American junior Jack Salisbury crossed the line in 3:45.43 to claim first place in the 1500m run. All-American senior Nick Wareham followed soon after to finish in fourth place.

Freshman Rusty Kujdych took another first-place win for Georgetown in the last event of the meet, running the 5000m race in 14:19.27.

At the Sun Angel Classic, members of the women’s team secured more victories for the Blue and Gray. Freshman Sami Corman ran to second place in the 1500m run with a time of 4:33.35, missing out on first place by less than a second. In the 800m run, freshman Cathilyn McIntosh gave the team a top-10 finish by finishing seventh.

The Hoyas will return to the track Saturday, April 13, in the George Mason Spring Invitational hosted by George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
