Artist Kara Walker has produced a number of widely-acclaimed and culturally relevant pieces, and several of these are now on display at Georgetown University’s de la Cruz Art Gallery. Multimedia staffer Alexis Lien (CAS ’27) explores these exhibits and what they mean to the community at Georgetown and beyond. The motion picture “Prince McVeigh and the Turner Blasphemies,” created by Walker, comments on the history of violence against Black individuals during the 20th century and provokes reflection on Georgetown’s own history with slavery.
