We’re almost one month into 2014. The semester is actually starting now: the work is beginning to pile up, we’re being comforted by the solace of Chicken Finger Thursdays and we’re hoping that we don’t lose any more basketball games so that we have a chance at March madness. Now that we’re well into the new year, 4E is here to present some of the best (and possibly the worst) songs of 2013. Let’s take a look back in time:
Wake Me Up – Avicii Those who are big into EDM probably crinkled their nose after hearing this song and wondered if this was really Avicii, but it is, and it turned into one of the hugest tracks of 2013.
Wrecking Ball – Miley Cyrus Swinging nude atop a wrecking ball in the music video, Miley Cyrus hit America like a … well, you get it.
Mirrors – Justin Timberlake JT killed it yet again in his two albums of 2013. Seven years after bringing sexy back, he’s still got it.
Blurred Lines – Robin Thicke Backlash and controversy of the lyrics aside, this song quickly became a huge 2013 summer hit.
Get Lucky – Daft Punk Had to follow “Blurred Lines” with this, because they’re arguably the two biggest summer hits. Daft Punk has had big singles before, like “One More Time” and “Around the World,” but this one was even more radio-friendly.
Wagon Wheel – Darius Rucker This may not actually be a top track of 2013, but it’s the catchiest country song I’ve ever heard (and ask anyone, I despise country music).
Rap God – Eminem His new album, Marshall Mathers LP 2, debuted huge and proved that he can rap just as well as he always has.
The Phoenix – Fall Out Boy The buildup to the release of their new album, Save Rock and Roll, proved successful, as Fall Out Boy had many hit singles off of this album.
Red Lights – Tiësto Sorry, but it wouldn’t be my Friday Fixat10ns post without including my top EDM track released this year. This is a song off of Tiësto’s upcoming album, set to debut later this year.
3005 – Childish Gambino Gambino delivers an excellent track as a single from his most recent album, and it is slightly reminiscent of his 2011 track, “Heartbeat.”
