4/5 stars

Loreen is a Swedish pop star who rose to overnight stardom after winning the television competition“Eurovision,” a singing contest televised throughout the continent pitting European countries against one another through representative singers, with viewers voting for their favorites. Loreen won the competition, which was held in Azerbaijan this year, for her homeland of Sweden with an impressive 372 points. Her winning song, “Euphoria,” has now been released as a single complete with a haunting music video. The song is just as catchy and moving now as it was during the competition.

“Sleeping Ute”

Grizzly Bear | Shields

3/5 stars

These Brooklyn-based indie rockers have made quite a name for themselves in the eight years they’ve been active as a band. In September they’ll release their fourth studio album, Shields. The first single from this album is the opening track, titled “Sleeping Ute.” The song sticks with the band’s tried-and-true formula of making well-crafted noise, complete with some of the best guitar playing on the scene. This song is a great preview of what to expect on their new album, one that may carry them to the mainstream. If their two sold-out shows planned for September at Nightclub 9:30 are any indicator, it’ll be hard to avoid them come summer’s end.

2NE1| Single

Rating: 3/5 stars

Unless you go looking for it, Korean pop is not exactly easy to find in the United States. However, K-pop superstars2NE1 are doing their best to change this oversight. Their newest single — the first from their highly anticipated American debut album — is called “I Love You.” The lyrics combine English and Korean while sticking to the foursome’s recognizable bugglegum-pop sound with an electro twist. Expect to hear a lot more from this talented group of girls: Their will.i.am-helmed debut will be released in the coming months.
