GU Splits First Four Games

The Lady Hoyas are 2-2 after spending the weekend in Elon, N.C. They split doubleheaders on both Saturday and Sunday, beating Rider twice and losing to host Elon twice.

On Saturday, Georgetown shut out Rider 8-0 for its first-ever season-opening victory behind a three-hit gem from senior Jennifer Connell and three hits from sophomore first baseman Cara Savarese. Later in the day, sophomore Mackensey Carter took to the hill and did not last long in an 8-4 loss to Elon, going just three innings and giving up seven runs, four of which were earned, and six hits.

The Hoyas returned to the diamond on Sunday and shut out Rider once again, this time 9-0 behind five shutout innings from junior Melissa Conners and two RBIs each from senior third baseman Demetria Cipriano and senior second baseman Kelsie Hanson. Elon then took down Georgetown for the second time in as many days, as the Hoyas could not push a run across.

Georgetown will travel to Tennessee for the Frost Classic this weekend.”
