Credit Union Installs New ATM

The Georgetown University Alumni and Student Federal Credit Union purchased and installed a new ATM in the Leavey Center lobby just outside the bank last week. The old ATM will be upgraded and returned to a different part of campus in the fall.

“We purchased the new ATM to be an additional ATM to the other three. It is temporarily replacing the one in Leavey, while that one has been sent back to be updated to prevent any future problems,” Chief Communications Officer for GUASFCU Rachel Schumann (MSB ’04), said. “Some possibilities [for the additional ATM] are in Walsh, near the Riggs ATM at Copley or in the New Quadrangle.”

Schumann said that the new Leavey ATM was purchased several months ago and although it was installed last week, it will require new software before it is fully operational.

The New South ATM has been out of service for several weeks, and Schumann said that the credit union has been working to return the ATM to service.

“We have been in contact with the vendor for months and have been paying the person in charge of maintenance to come out almost once a week to determine the cause of the malfunction,” she said. “Recently, new chips were purchased and should arrive in the next few days, which hopefully will be the solution to the problem.”

Additionally, the Credit Union also installed and activated a real-time phone banking system in April that offers an automated operator available 24 hours a day to give real-time balances, transfers, account history and other account information.
