Davis Center to Open Next Saturday

Administrators announced Tuesday that the Royden B. Davis, S.J., Performing Arts Center, which has been under construction for over two years, will officially open next Saturday, Nov. 12.

The center, which will include two theaters, classrooms and rehearsal areas, will be the first academic building constructed on campus in the last 20 years, and the first building in the university’s history designed specifically for arts education.

Karen Frank, vice president for facilities and student housing, said that the project – funded entirely by donations – will finish under its $30.8 million budget. The building was constructed as an addition to the old Ryan Administration Building, which was emptied and will serve as part of the new Davis Center.

“Opening the Davis [Center] is an extraordinary step forward for Georgetown – for the arts, for our students and faculty, for the college and our national standing, for the neighborhood,” Maya Roth, director of the theater program and artistic director for the Davis Center, said in a prepared statement.

The debut of the new center will coincide with a performance of “Our Country’s Good,” a play by Timberlake Wertenbaker, at 8 p.m. Nov. 12.

The building will also feature four traditional classrooms, a scene shop, a theater design room, a box office and faculty offices.

A public open house will be held Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
