The Hoya

Homecoming Sweet for Hoyas

The Georgetown field hockey team opened its season with some rocky performances. They dropped three straight on the road before improving with a win over University of Maryland-Baltimore County last Wednesday. In its home opener the team got its second win, this time against St. Francis (Pa.) on Kehoe Field.

The Hoyas’ 3-1 victory was largely due to their dominance in shots on goal, with 11 as opposed to just two by the Red Flash.

Georgetown, despite having possession for most of the first half, was unable to capitalize during that span. A goal by St. Francis’ junior forward Erin Davis left the Georgetown squad trailing 1-0 at the half.

The Hoyas came out energized in the second half, however, with freshman Lindsay Fisher tying the score five minutes in off of a pass from fellow freshman Lauren Sheets.

Sophomore Jen Kosloski followd with another score, putting the Hoyas up 2-1. A late one-timer goal by junior Erica Chan iced the victory, giving Georgetown the win in its first home game.

The team looks to continue its success at home, taking on Virginia Commonwealth on Kehoe Field this Friday at 3:30 p.m.
