Hoya Women Take Third at Invite

The Hoya women came in third at the third annual Hoya Invitational last weekend at Raspberry Falls Golf Course in Reston, Va. The event was shortened to one round due to inclement weather, but that did not stop Georgetown from placing two golfers in the top-10 in an event that included 14 Division I collegiate teams.

The Hoyas performed well this weekend considering adverse conditions. First, Georgetown is currently missing its top player, nationally ranked junior Christy Larrimore. Larrimore is ill with mononucleosis and will be unavailable to play for at least another tournament, according to Assistant Coach John Keyser.

The golfers also had to face rough weather conditions, even after a day of cancelled play because of a spring storm.

“Sunday it was really tough because it was cold and very, very windy, so the playing conditions were difficult,” Keyser said.

Senior Connie Isler was the top finisher for the Hoyas, finishing with a score of 81, tied for sixth place.

“Isler played really well,” Keyser said. “Connie’s the one senior, and she’s been very steady. She had a real good spring, so she’s going out in style.”

Junior Nicole Hayashi was Georgetown’s other top-10 finisher with a score of 83.

The rest of the Hoyas did not follow far behind as freshman Jenna Winokur finished tied for 14th and junior captain Erin Cockren finished tied for 26th. Sophomores Claire Pogue, Rosalina Ascolani and Maggie Ward finished ranked in the top-50 for the event, as well as freshman Katie Dwyer.

The Georgetown women will compete in the Bonnie Hoover Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va., tomorrow and Sunday. It is their last tournament before the Big East Championship April 22-24.

The Hoya men will also compete this weekend. They will participate in the First Energy Intercollegiate today and tomorrow in Akron, Ohio. It will be their second event of the season. They last finished tied for 11th at the Bradford Creek Invitation on arch 18-19.
