Georgetown has struggled recently, having lost three of its last four games. Two of those losses were blown halftime leads, and the other was a 16-point loss at the hands of Louisville, a game which the Cardinals dominated throughout.

That same Louisville team left Connecticut Monday on the losing end of a 93-65 drubbing, one of Connecticut’s many blowout victories so far this season. Earlier this month the Huskies visited then-No. 2 and previously undefeated North Carolina and routed the Tar Heels 88-58. In fact, no Connecticut opponent has stayed within single digits of the Huskies all season.

The Huskies boast the nation’s highest scoring offense at 87.4 points per game. Their ninth ranked defense has limited opponents to 53.0 points per game. The 34.4 point average margin of victory leads the nation by an astronomical 11.2 points per game, as Pittsburgh holds the second highest differential at 23.2.

Connecticut features a balanced talent throughout the lineup. Sophomore forward Maya Moore leads the Huskies in scoring with 19.9 points per game and has patrolled the glass with a team-leading 9.3 boards per game. Junior center Tina Charles rounds out Connecticut’s powerful inside tandem, adding 16.5 points per game and 9.0 rebounds per contest. Senior guard Renee Montgomery is the Huskies’ floor general, dishing out 5.5 assists per game from the point and scoring 16.5 points per contest. Junior guard Kalana Greene and freshmen guards Tiffany Hayes and Caroline Doty all also contribute at least 7.5 points per game.

Georgetown has also exhibited a well-balanced scoring offense, but more as a result of a lack of a prolific scorer than because of overflowing offensive talent, as the Hoyas’ roster includes not a single player averaging double-digits. Junior forward Jaleesa Butler, who leads the team in scoring with 9.7 points per game, suffered an ankle injury against Pittsburgh Monday and may not be at 100 percent Saturday.

If the Hoyas are to pull off an upset, they must have a spectacular shooting afternoon. Georgetown shot only 28 percent against Pittsburgh, including 15.4 percent in the second half, but throughout the season the Hoyas have shot just above 40 percent. The Huskies have held their opponents to only 33.7 percent shooting while making more than half their shots, so the Hoyas will have to hope the shots fall. If they do, Georgetown could at least keep the game fairly close. If not, the rout should be on by halftime.
