The Georgetown field hockey team played another rough two games last weekend.

The Temple Owls and the Davidson Wildcats handed the Hoyas two more losses, dropping Georgetown to 2-11-0 for the season and extending the Hoyas’ losing streak to eight games. The losing streak is one game longer than last year’s streak, a seven game slide the Hoyas went on from August thru September in 2003.

Last Friday the women traveled to Philadelphia to face the Owls in an exciting match that ended with the Hoyas on the losing end, falling to Temple, 4-1.

Junior forward Melissa Fritze scored twice for Temple within the first seven minutes to give the Owls an early lead. Georgetown responded quickly and senior midfielder Meghan Leahy scored in the 14th minute, capitalizing on a penalty corner. Temple held a two-goal lead going into the half, however, with a third goal by junior forward Ashley Shepps.

Georgetown defense stepped up in the second half and the Owls only managed one more goal before the buzzer. The Hoyas could not find any offense, however, and dropped the match three goals short.

The Hoyas returned home to Kehoe Field to face Davidson on onday.

Davidson proved an equal match for Georgetown and the teams battled constantly for possession as each team fought for every inch of the field.

The Wildcats posted the first goal of the game when freshman midfielder Eleanor Cowley scored in the fourth minute. Georgetown would not give up an early lead this time and junior back Caitlin Bump hit the net in the eighth minute to even the score. The two teams remained tied at the end of the first half.

Davidson kicked its game into gear early in the second half with a goal by junior back Molly Blackman. The Wildcats also managed a third goal in the 58th minute of play, insuring their victory over the Hoyas.

Davidson might have won the game, but the teams were evenly matched with each team managing eight shots on goal.

“It has nothing to do with preparation. It has everything to do with performance,” Head Coach Laurie Carroll said after the game.

The Hoyas will look to transform their preparation into a quality performance when they face Radford tomorrow at noon in front of a home crowd on Kehoe Field.
