Hoyas Lose Yet Another Big One

Charles Nailen/The Hoya Wilson will not be playing for at least some time.

Georgetown men’s basketball senior center Wesley Wilson has taken a temporary leave of absence, according to a report in today’s Washington Post.

The leave, which is apparently due to “personal reasons,” is from both the team and the College of Arts and Sciences.

Wilson is not listed on the roster in the current game notes prepared by Georgetown’s Sports Information department, although Sports Information Director Bill Shapland would neither confirm nor deny his departure.

Wilson missed the Hoyas’ most recent game at Syracuse with what was then explained as a back injury.

Head Coach Craig Esherick told The Post, “Wesley has a problem that relates to more than his back. He has not been kicked off the team. Both his return to school and his return to the team are open-ended.”

Wilson’s grandfather died at the end of December.

In the last game he played, a double-overtime loss to Notre Dame, Wilson got in early foul trouble, committing two quick personal and one technical foul. This season he is averaging 6.6 points, 4.9 boards and 15.9 minutes per game.
