LXR Students Report Thefts

There have been numerous thefts in East Campus residences within the past two weeks, according to an e-mail sent by Tim Monaco, East Campus hall director, on Sunday.

“A significant amount of money has been stolen from unlocked rooms in [the] complex,” the e-mail told residents of East Campus, which is comprised of LXR and Nevils.

In order to decrease the thefts, Monaco advised dorm residents to lock their doors whenever they leave, and hide their valuables so they are not easily found in the event of a break-in.

“I know kids in LXR who leave their doors open all the time,” LXR resident Rei Kobayashi (MSB ’06) said. “If you’re stepping outside for 15 minutes you shouldn’t have to lock the door every time.”

The violations which occurred in the past two weeks were categorized as “thefts,” meaning that the money was taken by a student. The e-mail also stated that several burglaries, which are thefts by non-residents, occurred on East Campus last semester.

Monaco declined to comment and Darryl Harrison, interim director of the Department of Public Safety, did not respond to phone calls placed yesterday.
