No. 1 GU Captures Weekend Regattas

The Georgetown co-ed sailing team is ranked No. 1 in the country, and at this weekend’s regattas they showed why. The Hoyas won the Arrigan Memorial Regatta and the KP Dinghy Open and took second in the Stevens Match Race.

At the Arrigan Memorial Regatta, the Hoyas scored 40 points to take first. In the A Division, seniors Ryan Costello, John Camera, Dana Scalere and Baye Emery scored 18 points to come in first. In the B Division, seniors Raoul Mangana, Peter King, Alec Barker, Gavin Weiss and Paige Black came in third with 18 points.

At the KP Dinghy Open in King’s Point, N.Y., the Hoyas sailed to a first place finish out of 15 schools. In the A Division, junior Brian Bissell and sophomore Erin Gabrielson came in fourth with 40 points. In the B Division, junior Ken Ward and sophomore Emma Trentman came in first with 21 points. Their total of 61 points barely beat the second place finisher, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, who had 62 points. Washington College placed third with 65.
