Out of Garage, Band Hits National Scene

The Hilltop isn’t exactly known for its indie-music scene. But it has at least one budding rock star.

Dan Hind (COL ’10) recently got a taste of life in the professional music scene when he joined his band, Post Roman, to perform in mtvU’s Campus Invasion Music Festival in a battle of the bands contest in Austin, Texas.

The group was informed in late March that they were one of nine student bands chosen from over 100 and performed in Austin on April 22nd.

It was a new experience for Hind, who said he and other members of the band did not really know what to expect.

“It was bigger than any stage we’ve ever played on before,” he said. “I think the show’s attendance number was around 3,000. Being up there and looking out onto all of these people was an incredible feeling – one that I’d love to experience again and again.”

Hind, a guitarist and lyricist, is the only member of the band who attends Georgetown. The others all attend universities in New York.

Balancing studies at Georgetown and his commitment to the band has been an exciting challenge for Hind.

“It’s absolutely worth it,” he said. “I get to be a student here and pursue my passion at the same time, two dreams I’ve always had.”

The band released its debut album, “This Canvas, A Vessel,” which they recorded in the summer of 2006. Hind said the group has begun working on ideas for another album and is going to its first tour along the east coast beginning in August.

Hind hopes to bring Post Roman to Georgetown to perform sometime next year.

“I’m definitely going to pursue that and try to set something up,” he said. “I think it’d be really great to fuse those two elements of my life together.”
