Sailing Starts in Middle of the Pack

The Hoya women’s sailing team got its spring season underway last weekend, taking seventh place of 15 schools at the College of Charleston’s Women’s Intersectional.

Every team in the national top nine was at the regatta, including No. 8 Georgetown, which finished with 163 points. No. 1 Yale prevailed over the tough competition with 64 points.

Georgetown’s A team went without senior Darby Anderson at skipper, but sophomore Blaire Herron stepped in to lead her boat to sixth place in the division. Freshman Carly Chamberlain was the crew.

The B team, meanwhile, finished in 10th place in its division. Senior Jackie Schmitz and freshman Sprague Brodie were the skipper and crew.

Georgetown’s combined performance was inconsistent, with finishes ranging from second and third to 11th and 13th. The A team did, though, pick up five top-five finishes.

Next weekend the sailing teams split up to participate in the Navy Quad Invite in Annapolis, Md., and the Charleston Coed Intersectional, hosted again by the College of Charleston in South Carolina.
