Streaker Nabbed in Red Square

A nude Georgetown student sprinted through campus before being detained by law enforcement officials and escorted back to his residence hall April 2.

David Morrell, vice president for university safety, said Friday that Department of Public Safety officers were dispatched to Red Square at about 5:30 a.m. April 2 after a caller contacted DPS complaining about a naked man running around campus.

When they arrived at the scene they observed a male “streaking,” Morrell said.

“They were able to detain him there but initially were unsure whether he was a student since he obviously had no identification on him,” he said. “They escorted him back to his residence and later identified him as a Georgetown student.”

No one was injured during the incident and Morrell said that he did not know if the student would be charged with a violation of the student code of conduct.

Officials with the Office of Student Affairs, which handles university disciplinary matters, declined to reveal the student’s name or say whether he was being charged with any violations, citing privacy concerns.

Although Morrell said he was not certain that the student had been intoxicated, he did say that one of the responding officers could smell alcohol on the student as he took him into custody.

“We’re all just thankful that the individual involved is OK and that nobody was hurt,” he added.
