Student Reports Prospect Robbery

A Georgetown sophomore was allegedly accosted and robbed only blocks off campus on March 8.

According to a Metropolitan Police Department incident report, Alejandro Ganimian (SFS ’07) was walking westbound on the 3200 block of Prospect Street at 3:25 a.m. when two males approached him from behind and demanded money. They then stole Ganimian’s backpack before fleeing in a black pickup truck, the report said.

Inside the backpack were a laptop computer and a cell phone, according to the report. It said that more than $1,200 dollars of property was stolen during the attack.

Ganimian said Thursday that the suspects had threatened to kill him during the incident but never displayed weapons.

“I immediately went to LXR to sound the alarm about the incident and cops came to take reports,” he said. “It was frightening.”

Ganimian also said that his second laptop was stolen at Lauinger Library only a few days later.

DPS Director Darryl Harrison said Thursday that that the university is “fully investigating the circumstances of the incident.”

One suspect in the incident was described by police as a back male between 20 and 25 years old and approximately 5’6″ tall wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt and a nylon hat. Ganimian said he was unable to describe the other suspect.
