Elbe Wins Tewaaraton Erin Elbe (COL ’02) capped off her brilliant lacrosse career at Georgetown by winning the Tewaaraton Trophy, the award given annually to the best male and female lacrosse player in the nation. With the award, she receives a $5,000 scholarship.

Elbe, a First Team All-American in 2001 and 2002, led the Georgetown with 58 goals and 23 assists last year. The Hoyas reached their second straight Final Four, losing to Princeton 12-7 in the finals. Elbe was The Hoya’s Female Athlete of the Year in 2002.

Dusseau, Doyle, help U.S. to World Title Recent Georgetown graduates Steve Dusseau (COL ’02) and Scott Doyle (COL ’01) helped the United States lacrosse team to the World Lacrosse Championship this past summer in Perth, Australia. The U.S. cruised to the victory, going 4-0 in pool play and defeated the Iroquois and Canada to win the world title.

Doyle, a midfielder, scored 12 goals in the six games, fourth on the team. Dusseau added 11 goals and four assists to help the team to the title. The U.S. has won the event, which has been contested every four years since 1974, except in 1978 when it finished second to Canada.

Dusseau was a First Team All-American in 2001 and 2002 and last year was a runner-up for the Tewaaraton Trophy. The Boston Cannons selected him second overall in June’s Major League Lacrosse Draft. He was The Hoya’s Male Athlete of the Year for 2002. Doyle was an Honorable mention All-American in 2001.

LeSueur Joins Hoyas Bethany LeSueur, a rising sophomore basketball player, transferred from Virginia to Georgetown this summer. She averaged 2.9 points and 1.6 rebounds in limited action last season with the Cavaliers. A native of Garden City, N.Y., she was Long Island’s all-time leading scorer while playing for Garden City High School.

“Bethany shoots the ball extremely well,” Head Coach Patrick Knapp said in a press release. “She is a competitive person and her ability to score and defend will be a great plus for our team.”

In other news, Mimi Riley has joined the program as an assistant coach. Riley graduated from Big East rival Villanova in May. There, she helped the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament in 2001 and 2002. She replaces Niki Reid, who left Georgetown in May to become assistant women’s basketball coach at Fordham.
