Two Assaults Follow Weekend Crimes

Less than 24 hours after a student was sexually assaulted at gunpoint, another sexual assault was allegedly attempted at Henle Village Sunday morning and a reported aggravated assault occurred on the Village A stairs today.

An unknown female reported to the Department of Public Safety that at 2:15 a.m. Sunday morning, she was forced into an alleyway at Henle by three college-aged Caucasian males, according to a public safety announcement. The assailants tried to sexually assault her, the alert said, but she freed herself and fled. DPS received the report through an Anonymous Crime Tips e-mail.

DPS received another report today that at 2:30 a.m., a complainant was climbing the steps to a Village A fourth-floor patio when someone grabbed her by the arms and pushed her into the handrail. When she screamed, the assailant pushed her away and fled, at which point she fell down the stairs, according to a public safety announcement. The suspect was described as a black male in his early 20s. The complainant did not report any physical injuries.

The two incidents follow an armed sexual assault at LXR early Saturday morning, in which a third-floor resident was “digitally penetrated” and forced to kiss her assailant as he pressed a gun to her leg, according to a Metropolitan Police Department incident report. After outbursts of student anxiety and fears about safety, the university promised to boost East Campus security measures, although some students remain dissatisfied after two burglaries were reported at LXR the following morning.
