The Georgetown women’s golf team competed in the Rutgers Invitational Golf Tournament at the picturesque course in Piscataway, N.J., Oct. 12-13. Freshman Connie Isler’s sensational play helped guide the Hoyas to a 10th- place finish among the competitive 17-team field. Central Connecticut walked out of the Invitational as the champion with a mark of 640. The ladies of the Hilltop finished 52 strokes behind and carded a 692 by weekend’s end.

This season has been characterized by a surge of youth and this tournament proved to be a showcase for Georgetown’s young talent. Isler finished with a formidable two-day total of 163. Individually, she ranked 14th among all competitors. Freshman Lauren Frazer also put in a strong score and ended with a 170, earning 31st place. Sophomores Heather McDermott (177), Jill Haak (190) and Gillian Feh (190) also turned in solid scores. Isler and Frazer have been leading the team on the course thus far, but the trio of sophomores have put up strong numbers and are playing competitive golf.

This 10th place finish is the best the Hoyas have placed all year; they seem to be on the right track for a team in its nascent stages. Next up for the team is the ECAC championship in Lewisburg, Pa., on Oct. 19-20.

The tournament took place at the Rutgers Golf Course, located on the university’s Busch Campus. Participants endured the 6,000 yards-plus of this par-72 course. The course is renowned for its beautiful aesthetics and the fact that each hole is named after a tree. The highlight of the course is the par-three 11th hole which features a 200-year old sour gum tree.
