Friday Fixat10ns: Almost Home

FIXAT10NS: Almost Home from thehoya on 8tracks.

Studying sucks. Good thing we’re a week away from Spring Break. While some of us may be soaking up the rays in Punta Cana or committing ourselves to social justice on ASB, I’m guessing many of us are catching a bus, plane or train back home. Here are some songs to get you through this last week before Spring Break — and maybe to remind us of where we’ll be in a week’s time.

Home — Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros Unfortunately for music, this song is starting to become a little cliche. Whatever. This song is great. If you’re not on the Edward Sharpe bandwagon yet, you should join now.

CuDi Zone — Kid Cudi Flying back home is sort of like going back to my own Cudi Zone, except for the fact that I’m not from Cleveland and my zone doesn’t involve shrooms.

Wagon Wheel — Old Crow Medicine Show All this guy wants to do is go back home. I think we can all sympathize at this point in time.

Look at Miss Ohio — Gillian Welch There’s something about beauty queens, convertibles and rebelliousness that reminds me of people back home. Anyone else share the feeling?

Yankee Bayonet — The Decemberists Why is it that most of these songs seem to be talking about going back to a lost love at home? All I want is some rest, good food and sunshine.

My Body — Young the Giant The chorus of this song is sort of what my body is saying right now — no. But, I need to keep working until break.

Homecoming — Kanye West Every interview I’m representin’ you, makin’ you proud/Reach for the stars so if you fall you land on a cloud/Jump in the crowd, spark your lighters, wave ’em around/And if you don’t know by now, I’m talkin’ about Chi town
/I’m comin’ home again.

Comeback Kid — Sleigh Bells I couldn’t release a playlist this week without including a song from Sleigh Bells’ newly-released album. It just so happens that this rocker talks about coming back.

Coming Home — Diddy-Dirty Money I really only like the first 20-ish seconds and choruses of this 2010 release. It’s still a great song for my purposes today, though.

Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) — Arcade Fire For those of us from the ‘burbs, this entire album is enough to remind us of home. But, I could only pick my favorite of the bunch.
