Georgetown University launched a program providing new scholarships and career services for recent graduates, undergraduate seniors and current or recently fired federal employees applying to its graduate programs.
The changes, which Interim President Robert M. Groves announced March 17, include a 10% tuition reduction, application fee waivers and application flexibility for certain master’s degree programs. Groves said the policies aim to help Georgetown students, graduates and public servants navigate recent federal policy changes from the Trump administration, including cuts to the federal workforce and a federal hiring freeze.
Groves said the university aims to provide greater opportunities to those most financially affected by the policy changes, including students who have seen job offers at government agencies rescinded or federal government employees who have been laid off.
“Over the past few weeks, the lives of thousands of public servants have been disrupted with reductions in staff at federal agencies,” Groves wrote in the email. “Our university response: we expand opportunities for education.”
Besides the changes to master’s degree program admission and tuition, the Georgetown School of Continuing Studies will also offer a 30% discount on multiple professional certificates and the university will hold a seminar series to assist students in career development.
“We recognize the incomparable value of the work that many in our community have committed their careers to, and we will continue to offer support as we navigate these changes together,” Groves wrote. “We want to help them retool, to update knowledge and skills, and prepare for new ways forward.”
