Rosario “Rosie” Ceballo, dean of the Georgetown University College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) and a professor of psychology, will leave the university June 30 to become dean of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan, according to an email Provost Robert M. Groves sent to community members June 20 on behalf of President John J. DeGioia (CAS ’79, GRD ’95).
The university will provide information about an interim dean in the next few days, according to the email.
Ceballo, who has served as dean of the College since January 2021, has helped to develop the Capitol Campus, Georgetown’s downtown campus blocks from the U.S. Capitol, and created joint undergraduate majors in public policy and environmental sustainability on the Capitol Campus with the McCourt School of Public Policy and the Earth Commons Institute. Ceballo also led the effort to change the liberal arts school’s name from “Georgetown College” back to its previous name, “Georgetown College of Arts & Sciences,” and launched a magazine, Georgetown Arts & Sciences, to highlight the work of College faculty, staff, students and alumni.
In addition to her role as dean, Ceballo co-taught a seminar for first-year students, “Psychology: Creating a Purposeful Life.”
Groves wrote in the email that Ceballo’s efforts have helped strengthen the College and bolstered the school’s influence at the university and globally.
“She will be greatly missed and we wish her the very best as she returns to the University of Michigan, her previous academic home for more than 26 years,” Groves wrote.
