Arts Center Continues Progress

Andreas Jeninga/The Hoya A more visible construction site has emerged around the former Ryan Administration Building, which is undergoing a $30.8 million conversion to become the Rev. Royden B. Davis, S.J., Performing Arts Center.

Construction continues behind Harbin Hall as the Ryan Administration Building is converted into the Davis Performing Arts Center. Construction crews began demolition on the building’s second floor last November and crews have begun excavation of the ground adjacent the Jesuit Cemetery and Harbin Hall.

Karen Frank, vice president for Facilities and Student Housing, said that most of the exterior excavation consists of utility and foundation work.

“The next step after that will be reconstruction on the inside of the building and eventually reconstruction on the outside,” Frank said.

Frank also said that last week’s snow caused exterior construction to come to a halt, but that demolition and interior utility work is less dependent on weather.

The estimated completion date for the new facility, which includes a 270-seat theater and a 90-seat black box theater, is set for April 2005.
